Dr. Puja Rattan
She has done Ph. D Agriculture (Vegetable Science) and has 8 year 2 months teaching and 6 years and 10 months Post Doctoral Research experience.
She has worked on tomato during Ph. D. Project entitled, “Line X Tester Analysis Involving Bacterial Wilt Resistant Genotypes across Environments in Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.)”.
She has also worked as coworker in laboratory of Institute for Organic Agriculture, University of Bonn, Germany.
As a research associate at SKUAST-Jammu she was involved in evaluation and maintenance of germplasm collected at national and international level and had been associated as co-breeder in development and release of four vegetable varieties namely: Okra-05; Spinach Beet-07; Fenugreek-07 and CR-45
She has also been working as Project Investigator in project entitled,” Androgenesis Mediated Introgression of Fruit and Shoot Borer (Leucinodes orbonalis) Resistant Genes into Cultivated Eggplant (Solanum melongena), sanctioned by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India under RGO scheme for women scientists. The project involve wide hybridization using Solanum khasianum as the resistant parent, followed by embryo rescue of hybrids and further development of their double haploids by anther culture to introgress the fruit and shoot borer resistant genes.
She has also been associated in organizing various training camps for farmers.
Presently, She is working as Associate Professor in DAV University, Jalandhar, Punjab since July, 2022 and teaching different courses to B.Sc. Agriculture, M.Sc. Ag. (Horticulture) Vegetable Science and Ph.D Agriculture (Vegetable Science)
Besides this she was awarded with an externally funded research project entitled,” Alien introgression of Yellow Vein Mossaic Virus (YVMV) resistance genes in okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) through embryo rescue technique" under EMR grant of DST, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
She has guided 14 students of M.Sc. (Ag.) Horticulture Vegetable Science as major advisor and 14 students as co- advisor and presently guiding 6 M.Sc. and 2 Ph.D Vegetable Science students.
