Brief Profile

His main areas of specialization are Plant-microbe interaction, Plant Patholohy, Plant Biotechnology and Stress biology. He has qualified GATE Life Science (Percentile score 99.18, All India Rank 103), CSIR-UGC NET-LS, CSIR-UGC-NET-JRF and ICAR-NET. He has received his PhD degree in accordance with UGC 2009 regulations. He has more than 140 publications (research papers, review articles, and book chapters) in the Journals/Books of International repute. Some of them to mention are Biotechnology Advances, Chemosphere, Journal of Pest Science, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, Plants, Horticulture, International Journal of Vegetable Science, Journal of Crop Health, Journal of Applied Microbiology, Plant and Soil and Frontiers in Microbiology etc. He has also edited 6 books and authored one. He is also the recipient of the Young Scientist Award by the Punjab Academy of Sciences for his work entitled ‘Development of a sensitive PCR based detection method of Alternaria alternata infecting Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal, a high value medicinal plant and its possible use in quality control of herbal drugs thereof. He has three GenBank nucleotide sequence contributions and three MTCC microbial type culture collection contributions to his credit.  He has participated in many national and International conferences and has more than 13 years of teaching experience at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. He has received two major research project grants from DST-SERB, Govt of India and CSIR, Govt. of India, as Co-Principal Investigator and a minor research project grant funded by DAV college management committee as the Principal Investigator. One of his research proposals, entitled ‘Transcriptome based differential gene expression analysis of salt responsive genes in salt stress treated and control horsegram seedlings’ was shortlisted for assistance by 2017 SGRF genomics project grant (http://www.sgrf.org/grants.php).
