Teaching pedagogies adopted at Faculty of Agricultural Sciences

Classroom teaching-learning experience at DAV University is considered as the most important part of curriculum, which not only make them learn the different topics of their syllabi but also make learning an enjoyable experience, which they remember for the lifetime. In addition to the regular chalk and talk mode of classroom teaching, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences follow a variety of modern teaching pedagogies for the overall development of the students.

1.Experiential learning: Experiential learning is an important part of curricula delivery. Overall, four experiential learning programmers (ELPs) e., Commercial Beekeeping, Mushroom Cultivation, Organic Farming and Commercial Horticulture, are being offered to the students as a series of elective courses in which they learn, how to start these ventures from very beginning to the packaging and selling of the produce, so that they could experience the real time entrepreneurial environment.

2. Activity based learning: In every semester, the faculty members incorporate some activities like Jigsaw, Mind Map, and Double Wheel etc. These activities make teaching learning a fun. Students learn from their peers and they enjoy the entire process of activity based learning

3. Use of ICT tools: Audio-visual aids (projectors, smart boards, public addressing systems etc.) make the students understand the complicated scientific phenomenon really quickly. Further, the use of Learning Management System (LMS) based on Moodle open source software provides an interactive platform for the students and faculty that they can access after classroom hours also.

4. Personalized learning: Every faculty member gives special attention to the slow as well as weak learners to cater their specific learning needs. The slow learners are provided a special care, where attempt is made to make them learn the things more quickly in a simpler manner with memory tricks etc. However, the fast learners are provided with the special up-to-date topic beyond the scope of regular classroom learning to make them perform better in today’s competitive environment.

5. Industrial exposure: Special arrangement have been made for the industrial trainings, internships, exposure visits to the agro-based industries to provide them real world training experience and the students with relevant industry experience are preferentially placed in the industry.

6. Blended learning: Faculty of Agricultural Sciences combines both on-line and in-person learning methods for the students and also blends all above teaching pedagogies for a flexible and interactive yet a methodological approach of improving student learning outcomes
