Library Events

Library organizes various programs to create awareness among users about  use and usability of various resources and services. Glimpses of some of

the events are as under:

  1. User Awareness Programme : A User Awareness Programme on use of EBSCO e-resources was organized on 21st March 2015. Mr. Ritesh Sr. Training Specialist EBSCO took a demonstrative session. Dr. Naresh Sehajpal, Dean Academics & Chairman, Library Advisory Committee appreciated host of the workshop Ms Maninder Kaur Sood & Ms Amandeep Kaur and motivated to conduct such workshops in future.
  1. Books Exhibition : One Day book exhibition was organized in collaboration with National Book Trust , New Delhi to enhance the reading interest among students.
  1. Regional Workshop on DELNET Discovery Services: One Day Regional Workshop on DELNET Discovery Services, Open Source Software, Emerging Technologies in Knowledge Management, Academics Integrity & Plagiarism was held on 16th Sep, 2017 at DAV University in collaboration with DELNET (Developing Library Network) . The chief guest for the event Dr. Raj Kumar, Librarian, Punjab University Chandigarh address the participant and motivate them to maximize the use of information. The organizing committee members Dr H .K. Kaul , Director DELNET , Dr Sangeeta Kaul, Sr. Manager  DELNET, Coordinator Ms Maninder Kaur Sood and Ms Amandeep Kaur   along with their team were also present . More than 150 library processionals from different places of India participated in the workshop.
  1. On-line Workshop on Turnitin: An on-line workshop on Turnitin: an anti- plagiarism s/w was organised for the registered users on 3rd Sep.2019. This was an interactive session. The session was taken by Mr. Varun Piplani from Turnitin and coordinated by Ms Maninder Kaur Sood, Incharge E-Section (Central Library). While inaugurating the workshop, Vice-Chancellor Dr Desh Bandhu Gupta said that such programmes go a long way in improving the quality of research. All the registered users (under license) which includes faculty & Phd. students attended the workshop.
  1. Online Workshop On RFID for Libraries: Knowledge Resource Centre  of DAV University in collaboration with LIBSYS, Gurgaon organised an online workshop on RFID Technology.The workshop was coordinated by Ms Maninder Kaur Sood, Incharge KRC.  Workshop started with an introductory note on RFID and welcome of the attendees. Tech. Experts from different Deptt’s participated in this workshop. Mr. Anshum Kundra and Mr. Sandeep Kumar BDE’s from LIBSYS gave a presentation on RFID featuring its functioning, equipment and usefulness of its implementation.
  1. Orientation Programme: Knowledge Resource Centre, DAV University conducted orientation sessions from 1st Sep.2022 to 15th Sep.2022 for its new users . 1st  year students from all the Deptt.s attended these Sessions.  Ms Maninder Kaur Sood, Incharge, KRC gave presentation  about various resources and  services of the library. A virtual tour of the library was also arranged to introduce various sections of the library.

                                        

  1. Online Training Session on EBSCO: Knowledge Resource Centre (Library), DAV University Jalandhar in collaboration with EBSCO, organised a training session on the topic ‘EBSCO Business Source Elite – Delivering Research Better Than Ever’.A large number of students and faculty participated in this online session.Mr. Ritesh Kumar, Senior Training Manager, EBSCO Information Services and IEEE Client Services in the Northern Indian region, conducted this session. He started with a brief on how to access the collections through EBSCO Mobile App, along with basic and advance search strategies. He focused on navigating through search results and various feature  functionalities available on EBSCO host platform which can help all users in their academic and research activities The training session was followed by a question-answer session. The session was concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms Maninder Kaur Sood, Incharge Knowledge Resource Centre, who thanked distinguished trainer and the participants who helped in making this event successful.

  1. Online Workshop on JSTOR: Knowledge Resource Centre , DAV University  in collaboration with Globe Publications, New Delhi , organised an online Orientation-cum- Workshop on the theme, ‘JSTOR : A Digital Library for Intellectually Curious’. A large number of postgraduate students; Phd. Research Scholars and Faculty mainly from humanities participated in this online session. Mr. Debashis Das,  Training Officer, Globe Publications was the Resource Person.  He demonstrated various features and  functionalities of JSTOR  which can help users in their academics and research activities. At the end of the session, the training expert answered the various queries raised by the attendees.  The workshop was concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms Maninder Kaur Sood, Incharge Knowledge Resource Centre and host of the event, who thanked the distinguished guest and the participants for making the event successful.

  1. First Book Fair:

    Knowledge Resource Centre, DAV University, Jalandhar, organised 1st Book Fair, on 21-22 September 2023. The inaugural edition of the Book Fair at DAV University witnessed a grand gathering of literary enthusiasts, esteemed guests, and a treasure trove of knowledge. The event, held over two days, showcased more than 5000 titles from various subject fields and featured around 20 renowned publishers, including Wiley, Pearson, Sage, Atlantic etc.

    The event was graced by the presence of the University's Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr) Manoj Kumar, who served as the Chief Guest for the occasion. Accompanying him were several distinguished individuals, including the Registrar, Dr. Kailash Nath Kaul, Dr. RK Seth, who also holds the position of Dean and Chairman of the Library Advisory Committee, Deans from various departments and members of the Library Advisory Committee, along with Dr. Yeshbeer, Director Sports & Physical Education, Dr. Ashutosh Sharma, Er.Ranjodh Singh, and the driving force behind the event, Dr. Lakhmir Singh, who contributed to the hospitality arrangements and the library staff..

    Maninder Kaur Sood, in-charge of the Knowledge Resource Centre, spearheaded the organization of this book fair, ensuring a seamless execution that left attendees impressed. The event was not only a showcase of academic and literary excellence but also an opportunity for students and faculty to explore a diverse range of titles.

    The Vice Chancellor expressed his appreciation for the initiative and conveyed his desire to make the Book Fair an annual tradition at DAV University. He emphasized the importance of such events in fostering a culture of reading and learning within the university community.

    The 1st Book Fair at DAV University was a resounding success, bringing together academia and literature in a vibrant celebration of knowledge. With the promise of more such events in the future, it is evident that DAV University is committed to nurturing a passion for learning and literature among its students and faculty.

  1. Library Orientation Program 2023:

    Knowledge Resource Centre, DAV University organized Orientation Program from 6th Sep.2023 to 18th Sep. 2023 for the new enrolled students . Ms maninder Kaur Sood, Incharge KRC, conducted  various sessions for the students,  department wise. During this orientation program, virtual tour of the library as well as demonstrative session  on the use of Library Web Opac was arranged. The main objective of the program was to make the students aware about the various resources and services available for them along with rules and regulations which they must have to follow while visiting the library. After the end of each session, library membership cards were issued to the students, so that they can borrow learning material from the library.

 

11. Library Orientation Program 2024: Knowledge Resource Centre, DAV University organized Orientation Program from 3rd Sep. 2024 to 15th Sep. 2024 for the new enrolled students . Department wise  sessions were conducted by Ms maninder Kaur Sood, Incharge KRC, to make the students aware about various resources and services offered by the library. During this orientation program, virtual tour of the library as well as demonstrative session  on the use of Library Web Opac was arranged. The students were also notified about the  rules and regulations of the library, which are strictly required to maintain the discipline and decorum of the library. After the end of each session, library membership cards were issued to the students, so that they can borrow learning material from the library.
