Department of Biotechnology Research Scholars

Biotechnology faculty is involved in multidisciplinary research in the fields of plant metabolic engineering, stress biology, disease resistance, plant tissue culture, molecular virology and nanobiotechnology. The Department has been making significant strides to improve protein digestibility of mungbean under a project funded by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India. Recently the Department has received another major research project on unravelling host-virus molecular interactions underlying disease development, funded by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Govt. of India.

Dr. Lakhmir Singh and his group are working on molecular characterization of the viruses infecting urdbean in Northern India.

Dr. Yogesh Kumar and his group are working on understanding the complex host-virus molecular interactions involved in disease development and progression by plant viruses.  His group is also working on figuring out the molecular mechanism underlying RNA silencing and its suppression by plant viruses.

Dr. Praveen Guleria and her group are working on understanding the influence of phenylpropanoid derivative exposure on mungbean plants. Mungbean is rich source of proteins, hence, focus is on evaluating their effect on protein accumulation and bioavailability. They are keenly involved in deciphering the molecular mechanism of mungbean responses towards phenylpropanoids.
