  • Guest Lecture: The Department of Zoology organized a guest lecture on wetlands by Dr. Anish Dua, Professor, Department of Zoology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, on Feb 1, 2016 to celebrate World Wetlands Day
  • Asian Waterbird Census 2018 at Ranjit Sagar Dam: A team of 5 students and one faculty member Dr Dinesh Lakhanpal from Departments of Zoology participated in the Asian Water Bird Census (AWC) 2018 at Ranjit Sagar Dam on January 17, 2018.  The team was led by Ecologist and Conservationist T K Roy who is also AWC Delhi state coordinator. AWC is part of the International Water Bird Census of Wetlands International and it is the largest waterbird census in Asia which is carried out simultaneously in 27 countries once in a year in the month of January across Asia and Australasia by the national network of volunteers and conservation organizations in the coordination of national coordinator and state coordinators. Overall, AWC coordinator network is facilitated by Wetlands International South Asia office, to record overall water birds diversity with population and wetland site information, to maintain an overview of the population size, status and trends of water birds.
  • Science Fest: National Science Day is celebrated in India on 28 February each year to mark the discovery of the Raman effect by Indian physicist Sir Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman on 28 February 1928. Every year Science fest is celebrated on 27 and 28 February. Every year, Zoology Department organizes intradepartmental competitions under different categories like Rangoli on Zoology theme, Nature and wildlife photography, Poster presentation and Declamation, etc. The winners from various departments then participate in the interdepartmental the next day.
  • Educational Trips:
  • Panjab University, Chandigarh: The Department of Zoology organized an educational trip for students of B.Sc (Hons.) Zoology- Ist and IInd year; M.Sc (Hons.) Zoology- Ist and IInd year; B.Sc (Hons.) Biotechnology- Ist and IInd year, to Panjab University, Chandigarh on April 9, 2015. A total of 48 students participated in the trip accompanied by 3 faculty members, namely Dr. Tejinder Kaur (Zoology), Dr. Satyananda Patel (Zoology) and Dr. Harpreet Walia (Environment). The students visited the Invertebrates and Chordates museums and Instrumentation Facility of Zoology Department of Panjab University, Chandigarh. This was followed by a visit to the Central Instrumentation Laboratory of Panjab University
  • IMTECH, NIPER AND CRI: An educational trip to IMTECH and NIPER, Chandigarh and CRI, Kasauli was organized on Dec 1, 2015 for the students of B.Sc. (Hons.)- III year and M.Sc (Hons.)-II year Zoology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Microbiology. A total of 50 students participated in the trip. They were accompoanied by Dr. Tejinder Kaur (Zoology), Dr. Lakhmir Singh (Biotechnology) and Dr. Abhishek Walia (Microbiology).
  • Keoldeo National Park, Rajasthan: The students visited the National Park under the guidance of the faculty members and tour guides. Many different native and migratory bird species were observed. In addition to the birds, a few mammalian and reptilian species were also observed. The students not only got to know the morphology of birds and a few other animals but they could also study their behavior patterns like roosting, parental care, symbiosis, food capturing, mimicry, etc. The students also visited the Salim Ali Museum in the National Park. The museum displayed the history of the national park, the models of migratory birds visiting since the foundation of the bird sanctuary, the migratory routes followed by the birds, maps showing their native places, etc. Overall, the trip to Bharatpur (Keoladeo National Park) was a good learning experience for the students. After a detailed survey of the Keoldeo National Park, the students also visited Fatehpur Sikri, Taj Mahal and Vrindavan.
  • Uttrakhand: An Educational trip to Uttrakhand was organized from 13th-17thApril jointly by Departments of Zoology and Microbiology in which a total of 94 students and six faculty members participated. The students visited CSIR Institute of Petroleum where they students were acquainted with some molecular biology techniques. The students also visited different museums of Forest Research Institute and Rajaji National Park. For the purpose of recreation, the students also explored different sites in Mussorie, Rishikesh and Haridwar.
  • Youth Flair: The Department of Zoology organized poster presentations in ‘youth flair’ held in 2017 and 2018. Students from various schools participated in the event.
  • Diwali Mela: The Department of Zoology participated in the various events of Diwali Mela 2018 like Food stall, Bhangra, rangoli, mehndi, pooja thali decoration, etc.
  • AIDS DAY: The student members of DAV University Zoological Society presented a ‘Nukkad Natak’ on 30th Nov, 2018 to observe AIDS day (December 1, 2018).
