DAV University and University of Memphis, USA Granted Project to Establish Public Health Clubs in Schools

DAV University, in collaboration with the University of Memphis, has been granted a prestigious project aimed at establishing Public Health Clubs in schools across Jalandhar. This initiative is designed to promote public health education and empower students with practical skills and leadership qualities to tackle real-world health challenges.

This global initiative, which already includes participation from 17 countries, offers a unique opportunity for India to contribute to the worldwide effort to enhance public health. Through this program, students will actively engage in improving community health by collaborating with peers from around the world. The focus areas of the initiative include hygiene, nutrition, mental well-being, and preventive healthcare.

As part of the program, Public Health Clubs will be established in schools to engage students in the following key activities:

  1. Celebrating Public Health Days Every Month: Each month, Public Health Clubs will observe a Public Health Day, highlighting different health themes to raise awareness, promote healthy lifestyles, and encourage students to take part in community health improvement activities.
  2. Public Health Workshops: The clubs will conduct regular workshops to educate students and their families on critical public health topics, including hygiene, nutrition, and mental well-being.
  3. Community-Based Participatory Research: Students will take part in research activities aimed at generating data and meaningful insights on pressing public health challenges, utilizing informatics and analytic skills.
  4. Public Health Campaigns: Evidence-based public health campaigns will be created and conducted within the community to raise awareness and provide practical solutions to local health concerns.
  5. Participation in RE-AIM Public Health IDEAS Hackathons: Students will engage in global hackathons through the RE-AIM Public Health IDEAS framework, allowing them to explore innovative solutions to community health issues.

Significance of the Initiative: The establishment of Public Health Clubs in schools marks a significant step in empowering students to take charge of their health and well-being. By equipping them with essential knowledge and skills, this initiative will enable young minds to make a tangible difference in the health of their communities.

This initiative represents a major milestone in India’s contribution to global public health progress, offering students in Jalandhar a rare and valuable opportunity to become leaders in the field of public health. Additionally, students will be mentored by experts in the field to develop innovative, out-of-the-box solutions to address common public health challenges such as:

  • Environmental & Climate Health
  • Chronic Non-communicable Diseases
  • Substance Abuse
  • Smoking & Alcohol
  • Mental Health
  • STIs/HIV

Through this initiative, youth will be encouraged to pursue careers in public health, enhance their sensitivity to health issues, and become public health ambassadors committed to translating education into impactful community solutions. The program also aims to improve overall community well-being by fostering a culture of proactive health awareness and care.
