Department of Biotechnology

The Department of Biotechnology strives to achieve excellence in academics by providing quality education to students and encourage them to reach the pinnacle of success. The Department has designed dynamic and focused curriculums to develop a well-trained manpower in biotechnology for academic / industrial / pharmaceutical applications as well as research perspectives. The Department also focuses on inculcating ethical and moral values in the students. Students are also motivated to participate actively in seminars, symposiums, conferences and workshops.

Thrust areas of the Department in R&D include multidisciplinary research in the fields of plant metabolic engineering, stress biology, disease resistance, plant tissue culture, molecular virology and nanobiotechnology. The department has a qualified faculty having doctoral and post-doctoral research experiences and focus on research in the areas of Biotechnology / Biological Sciences.

The Department has been making significant strides to improve protein digestibility of mungbean under a DST funded project. Recently CSIR funded research project on host-pathogen interactions for understanding the underlying disease development by velvet bean severe mosaic virus in medicinal plant Mucuna pruriens through transcriptome analysis has commenced. The department is equipped with modern laboratories to provide quality teaching and research in the specialized domain of biotechnology.
