Dr Ashok K Paul
Vice-Chancellor, DAV University
Dr. Ashok K. Paul has taken over the charge of the Vice Chancellor of DAV University, Jalandhar with effect from December 26, 2015. Before joining DAV University, Dr. Paul has served CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) as Chief Scientist. He was also a Professor, Academy for Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) for M Tech and PhD streams in science and engineering. He also performed duties as Dean (Academics) and coordinator for sub-specialization course on ‘Analytical Instrumentation’ at CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh.
As researcher, he has completed a large number of sponsored, consultancy and in-house Research & Development projects. He has also transferred the know-how of three technologies to the industry for commercial exploitation and designed & developed systems/products based on the specific requirements of different user agencies for their R&D work.
Dr. Paul did his Ph.D. in Physics from Panjab University, Chandigarh, M. Tech. in Physics (Applied Optics) from IIT, Delhi and M.Sc. in Physics from Punjabi University, Patiala and has more than 39 years of working experience at different positions at CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh in the areas of Research & Development, Teaching, Human Resource Development and Administration.
He was awarded CSIR-DAAD fellowships thrice to carry out R&D work at different universities and institutes in Germany. He has also worked as a Guest Scientist at the Institute of Technical Physics, University of Kassel, Kassel (Germany). He was also awarded UNDP Fellowship and worked at New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, USA. He has also visited Moscow state University, Moscow during August - 2009 as a member of DST delegation to Indo-Russian workshop on current trends in immunoassay based environmental contaminants monitoring.
He has three patents to his credit and published more than 60 research papers in National and International SCI journals in addition to presenting more than ninety research papers in various National and International conferences and symposium. He has also delivered several invited lectures at different forums and supervised thesis work of a large number of graduate and post graduate students.
Dr. Paul is also a Fellow of Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers (IETE); Life Member of several other Professional Societies like Computer Society of India, Instrument Society of India, Indian Vacuum Society, Indian Physics Association, Institute of Smart Structures and Systems (ISSS), Solar Energy Society of India, Electron Microscopy Society of India and Member; Chandigarh Management Association, Optical Society of America (Indian Chapter).
