Former Head of the Department of Psychology at HMV College, Jalandhar, She is an eminent academician, social worker, and media person. She holds M.Phil and PhD in Psychology from Guru Nanak Dev University. She has 33 years of teaching experience, 20 years of experience in counseling services and 5 years of experience at de-addiction centers to her credit. She has actively assisted in updating learning methodologies and innovative techniques by conducting interactive sessions on psychological problems, public opinion surveys, case studies, group discussions, projects, training sessions at different colleges, psychiatric hospitals, and de-addiction centers.

She carried out her duties diligently as a member of Board of Studies of Psychology Department, GNDU (Amritsar), Board of Academic Council, Board of Advisory Council of the College, Selection committee at Army Nursing College, Jalandhar, and Selection committee in CRPF. Besides, she was incharge of the college NCC unit from 1984 to 1994. She got training from Gwalior in 1988 and was commissioned as 2nd Lt. in the college.

She served as Dean, Youth Welfare Department and Holistic Development of the college and as contingent incharge of Guru Nanak Dev University, she directed one act plays, mimes and skits and various cultural items which won various positions at university, inter university and national levels. 

Dr. Rishi has five books to her credit. She has published around twenty five papers in reputed journals. She has presented her three papers internationally at reputed platforms like Harvard University Boston. She was invited as a resource person by BBC Toronto in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2004, & 2006, and Hindustan Post (Canada).

Dr. Rishi has experience of 30 years as a journalist and reporter for radios and TV channels in India and Canada. Her work as a news reader for Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar, earned her wide popularity across Punjab. She was instrumental in the presentation of Smt. Pratibha Singh Patil (President of India)’s speech on the eve of Independence Day and Republic Day for DD Jalandhar and DD Punjabi from 2008 to 2012. She is member of the panel of Experts for Audition of Anchoring in Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar.

For promoting goodwill and culture, Dr. Rishi was given Certificate of Appreciation by Canadian Government. Besides, she was bestowed upon Award of Honour by Jalandhar administration and Kapurthala administration on Independence day (2000 and 2001). She was awarded gold medals by Punjabi Media Association, Lodhi Cup Association, and Punjab Student Association of Toronto.  She was awarded Certificate of Recognition by Canadian Government for her contribution towards Punjabi media.  Also she was appreciated for the best TV-radio coverage and awarded certificate of Acknowledgement by Canadian Government. She was bestowed upon Best News Reader award by World Punjabi Media Association (2011). She has honour of compeering International Festival ‘World Punjabi Virsa day at Taranto, Canada for three years consecutively.
