Pure Hindi is myth; language should change with people

Jalandhar: “Pure Hindi is a myth. The people who say that only pure Hindi should be spoken are enemy of Hindi,” said Prof Shambhu Nath Tiwari, Head, Department of Hindi, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh today on the occasion of Hindi Divas celebrations. DAV University today celebrated the culmination of Hindi Fortnight in the University Campus. The function was organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Prof Tiwari added that we should speak Hindi in a way in which it can be understood by people. “Hindi itself is not a Hindi word and Hindi language has incorporated words from many languages. Language is dynamic and Hindi is also dynamic which is changing with change in people speaking it,” said Prof Tiwari.

Ashok Malik, Editor, Jagriti was another speaker on the occasion. He stressed that research in India should be published in Hindi as it is done in Germany (research is published in German in Germany) and the use of Hindi in research publications can make Hindi popular among world.

Emphasising the importance of Hindi, VC Prof AK Paul said that we should not speak in Hindi but should also use it in writing. While Dean Academics Prof Naresh Sahajpal said that one can speak one’s heart out only in ones’ own mothertongue. He also said that Hindi Divas celebrations should be held all over the year.

Reiterating the same sentiment, Prof K K Rattu, Director Media and Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication said that Hindi is not only a link language but is a language which connects people and their ideas.

Some students on the occasion also recited poems. Students of all streams attended the function and interacted with the guests.
