Athletes from Jharkhand marked their supremacy in 100m and 800m races while the girls from UP and Uttrakhand Zones led in judo competition under various weight categories at DAV National Sports for girls on Sunday. More than 150 teams from 14 DAV clusters from across the country are participating at the event being hosted by DAV University in Jalandhar.
The three-day national sports event was declared open by Dr S K Sama, Senior Vice President, DAV College Managing Committee (DAVCMC), New Delhi, who was the chief guest at the inaugural day. The function was presided over by Dr R K Kohli, Vice Chancellor, DAV University, Jalandhar. Dr Sama, while addressing the partricipants, said that they had a long way to go and many of them would emerge as Olympians and national sport stars. The Vice Chancellor of DAV University, Dr R K Kohli said that he was proud to have hosted the first national sports event at the university.
More than 700 girls are participating in the sports events including volleyball, handball, basketball, kho-kho, table-tennis, badminton, hockey, swimming, lawn tennis, judo, roller-skating, air rifle pistol, races and gymnastics.

Winners: Pistol shooting: Priya Rani Haryana Zone (First), Rifle shooting: Khushboopreet, Punjab Zone (First); Kho-Kho: Himachal beats Gujarat Zone by 3 points; Andhra Pradesh beats Chhatisgarh; Volleyball: Haryana beats Bihar by 2-0; Himachal beats Punjab by 3-1; Basketball: Punjab beats Delhi & UP+Uttarakhand beats Bihar; Judo (36 kg): Sheel Negi, UP+UK (First), Kajal, Punjab (Second) and Sanchi, Haryana (Third); Judo (48kh): Shvangi Pandey, UP+UK (First), Ananya, Hatyana (Second) and Arushi Prasad, Delhi (Third); Judo (40kg): Shikha, UP+UK (First), Riya Singh, Jharkhand (Second), Anisha, Jharkhand (Third); Judo (52kg): Sonam, UP+UK, (First), Amandeep, Punjab (Second), Neha, Haryana (Third); Judo (44kg): Unnati Sharma, UK+UP (First), Jigyasa, Delhi (Second), Muskan, Punjab(Third); Judo (56kg): Harmeet, Punjab, Vartika Mishra Chhatisgarh (Second), Jyoti Rawat, UP+UK (Third).
In Athletics, Jenifer Nanci, Jharkhand won in 100m race while Madhu Chhanda Mishra from Orissa and Yashaswi Shetty from Maharashtra and Gujarat Zone got the third position. In 800 m race, Nisha from Jharkhand, M Monika from Andhra Pradesh and Pooja from Jharkhand got first, second and third positions respectively.
