November 3, 2018- Students of B. Tech department visited Rana Sugar Mills Ltd. as part of industrial visit organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering. Thirty-five students participated in the visit under the guidance of the two faculty members Mr Sumit Nijjar and Mr. Ved Raj Khullar. Dr. M.P.Garg, Head Mechanical Engineering said, “Industrial visits provides exposure to the students and they can learn better from the practical environment.” Rana Sugars Ltd was founded in 1992 by collaboration with Punjab Agro Corporation. The company has also setup a Demonstration Co-generation Project to produce extra power from the Bagasse (by-product of sugar), witnessing this added a practical exposure to the students in the field of power generation. After understanding lay out of the plant, students visited various sections of the mill accompanied by the Manager and technical officer of the mill. Students were given exposure to working of Boilers, heat exchangers, compressors and general process of conversion of sugar cane to sugar. All the technical questions and queries of the students were deciphered by the technical officer. The visit was fruitful as it added to the knowledge of the students.
