IETE, Institute for Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering is India's leading recognized professional society devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology of Electronics, Telecommunication and IT. Founded in 1953, IETE now serves more than 1, 25,000 members (including Corporate, student and ISF member) through various 64 centers, spread all over India and abroad.
IETE celebrates students' day every year on 1st February at all the IETE Centers. This day is exclusively devoted to students of IETE.
The IETE, Jalandhar Centre, established in DAV University, celebrated IETE students' day on 1st Feb, 2017. Various activities of students’ interests were organized such as technical quiz contest (Ex-Quiz-Me), multi-media presentation (Exposition), treasure hunt etc.
The quiz contest was based on basic science, aptitude, general knowledge and current affairs. More than 20 teams, comprising 2 members each, from various disciplines, participated. The event consisted of three rounds with varied difficulty were based on written, picture identification, rapid fire etc. Finally five teams qualified for the final round and Ms. Sonali (M. Sc. Chemistry) and Ms. Jigyasa (M. Sc. Chemistry) won the contest. The judgment was given by Mrs. Sangeeta Monga (ECE Dept.), Dr. Ramandeep Singh (Mech. Dept.), Mr. Gagan Deep Aul (ECE Dept.), and Mr. Inderjit Singh (ECE Dept.).
The multi-media presentation focused on technical and non-technical themes. The topics included Stealth Technology, Social Media: Boon or Bane, Ethical Hacking, Renewable Energy Resources, E-waste Management, Blue Brain Technology and Unmanned Vehicles. A dozen of students enthusiastically participated in this event, with full of zeal and confidence. The participants chose the topics as per their interest, were given 15 minutes for the presentation. Ms. Chahat (B. Tech CSE) won the competition and Manjot Kaur (B.Tech ECE) stood 2nd in the event, judged by Mr. Naveen Bilandi (CSE Dept.), Dr. Sanjeev Sharma (CSE Dept.), Mr. Omkar Singh (ECE Dept.) and Mr. Vikramjit Singh (ECE Dept.).
The events, Ex-Quiz-Me and Exposition, were graced by the auspicious presence of Mr. Naresh Sahejpal (Dean Academics) and Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj (Registrar). We are highly thankful to them for sparing their precious time to address the students with their inspirational words.
The next event was a fun event, The Treasure Hunt. The students had to run around the premises to find one clue after another to reach the destination. The clues were both technical and non-technical. It was a 90 minutes event and the students enjoyed a lot.
These events gave the students, an excellent opportunity to showcase their innovative ideas, knowledge and skills, not only in the engineering field but cultural also. These events help in developing a spirit of healthy competition, a team spirit among the students. Moreover, these events assist in developing the organizing and managerial skills.
In totality, more than 150 students participated with full vigor and zest. All the events were a grand success and it could not have been possible without the support, guidance and motivation of the Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. A. K. Paul.
