From Spiritual Wisdom to Social Equality: DAV University Tributes the Legacy of Guru Ravidas Ji
Jalandhar, August 18, 2026: DAV University Jalandhar organised a seminar on “Guru
Ravidas Ji’s Bani and Social Equality”, bringing together eminent spiritual leaders,
academicians and public representatives to reflect on the timeless teachings of Guru Ravidas
Ji and their relevance to contemporary society. The programme commenced with the
recitation of Shabad by the students of DAV University, creating a spiritually enriching
atmosphere and introducing the audience to the central theme of the seminar.
The event was graced by Sh. Mohinder Bhagat Ji, Cabinet Minister, Minister for Defence
Services Welfare, Freedom Fighters and Horticulture, Government of Punjab, as the Chief
Guest, while Sant Baba Nirmal Dass Ji, President, Shri Guru Ravidas Sadhu Sampradaya
Society, Bhenji Santosh, Sant Pradeep Das Ji, Dera Kathar, Shayari Malhotra, PCS, SDM II,
Jalandhar, attended as the Guest of Honour. Prof. Manjinder Singh, Head, Department of
Punjabi, Guru Nanak Dev University, attended as the keynote speaker also shared their
perspectives during the seminar.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Mohinder Bhagat Ji highlighted the continuing relevance of
Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings in creating a society based on equality, social harmony and
human dignity. He emphasised the importance of understanding the Bani of Guru Ravidas Ji
and carrying its message beyond religious observance into everyday social life. He also
underlined the responsibility of the younger generation to understand the values of equality
and social justice and contribute towards building a harmonious society.
Sant Baba Nirmal Dass Ji elaborated on the spiritual and social dimensions of Guru Ravidas
Ji’s Bani. He emphasised that Guru Ravidas Ji’s message transcends social divisions and
advocates the recognition of the dignity and equality of every individual. He encouraged
students to engage with the Bani in a meaningful manner and understand its relevance to
contemporary social challenges. He also stressed the importance of education and awareness
in creating a society free from discrimination and guided by mutual respect.
Bhenji Santosh Ji and Sant Pradeep Das Ji further reflected on the social and spiritual
significance of Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings and encouraged students to imbibe these values in
their personal and social lives. In his Keynote address, Prof. Manjinder Singh, Head,
Department of Punjabi, Guru Nanak Dev University, provided an academic perspective on
the significance of Guru Ravidas Ji’s Bani and its contribution to the broader tradition of
Punjabi spiritual and social thought.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, DAV University
Jalandhar, emphasised the importance of exposing students to the teachings of great spiritual
and social thinkers. He observed that the relevance of Guru Ravidas Ji’s message lies in its
emphasis on equality, compassion, social responsibility and harmonious coexistence. He
encouraged students to reflect upon these values and translate them into action in their
personal and professional lives.
The seminar also focused on the role of the youth and educational institutions in carrying
forward the values of social equality. The discussions emphasised that education should not
merely impart knowledge but should also develop sensitivity towards social issues and
encourage students to contribute towards a more equitable and inclusive society. As part of
the programme, Poster Making and Essay Writing Competitions on the ideology and
teachings of Guru Ravidas Ji were also organised, providing students with a creative platform
to express their understanding of his message of equality, social justice, human dignity and
harmony.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Arora,
Registrar, DAV University Jalandhar, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guest of
Honour, distinguished speakers, Vice-Chancellor, faculty members and students for their
valuable presence and contribution to the successful organisation of the seminar.
