In DAV University a one day district level ‘Farmers Awareness Camp’ was organized by the State Agriculture Department, Jalandhar. The Member of Parliament from Jalandhar, Mr. Santokh Singh Chaudhary graced the occasion as the chief guest. He was welcomed by Dr. Jasbir Rishi, Vice Chancellor, Dr. K N Kaul, Registrar and Dr. R K Seth, Dean (Academics).
During the event, various officials from State Agriculture and Horticulture Departments and the Scientists from PAU, Ludhiana were present to interact with farmers. Documentaries on beekeeping, water conservation and ‘jaivik kheti’ were also shown to the farmers.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Rishi highlighted the contribution of DAV University to the farming community by adopting surrounding villages. She also highlighted the contribution of the DAV movement in imparting quality education with holistic development through more than 900 institutions in the country.
Mr. Chaudhary, reassured the support to the farmer and stressed upon more such awareness camps at block level. Around 500 farmers from the different parts of the district participated in the event. The stalls of different companies displayed their products such as agro-chemicals, seeds, farm machinery etc., in the exhibition. The women self-help groups and the progressive farmers of the region also showcased their products like processed food items, nursery seedlings of vegetable crops, mushrooms, honey, ornamental and medicinal plants etc. In the event the students of Agricultural Sciences participated in the declamation contest on ‘Farm residue management’ and also presented a small skit to discourage stubble burning among farmers. The winners of the declamation contest were honoured. Dr. Jaswant Rai chief agriculture officer, State agriculture department, Dr. Maninder Singh, Agronomist, F.A.S.S., PAU Ludhiana, Dr. Sanjiv Kataria, Deputy Director KVK Noormehal, Er. Navdip Singh, Assistant Agriculture Engineer, Jalandhar, Dr. Sukhdip Singh Hundal, Deputy Director Horticulture, Jalandhar, Dr. Surjeet Singh, A.P.P.O., Dr. Vipul Chhabra Dy. P.D. (ATMA Scheme), Er. Lupinder Kumar, S.P.S.C.O., Dr. Naresh Gulati, A.O., Dr Ranjit Chauhan, A.O., Dr Arun Kohli, A.O. etc., shared their expertise with the farmers on various issues. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks from Dr. Satnam Singh, DTO, Jalandhar.
