Faculty of Agricultural Sciences participated in Kisan Mela at Kartarpur
Jalandhar, 9 October 2026: The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, DAV University, Jalandhar,
participated in the Kisan Mela organized by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’
Welfare, Punjab, at Kartarpur, on the theme “Sustainable Management of Rabi Crops and
Crop Residue.” The event was graced by Shri Balkar Singh, MLA Kartarpur, as the Chief
Guest and inaugurated by Shri Varjeet Walia, Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar.
The Faculty was represented by final-year B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students accompanied
by Dr. Rashika Mahajan, Dr. Priti Singh, and Dr. Kumari Sandeep. The Faculty showcased
and sold vermicompost, organic turmeric, and cold-pressed mustard oil. Students also
conducted method demonstrations on the preparation of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit, promoting
awareness of natural farming practices. The display of vermicompost highlighted the
potential of recycling agricultural residues into nutrient-rich organic manure.
The event provided students with valuable experiential learning opportunities in farmer
interaction, rapport building, product promotion, and agricultural extension communication.
Students also interacted with experts from the Department of Agriculture and Punjab
Agricultural University, attended expert lectures, and engaged with various agricultural
stakeholders, thereby broadening their professional networks and understanding of current
agricultural practices and technologies. The participation strengthened their practical
competencies and reinforced the Faculty’s commitment to experiential learning, sustainable
agriculture, and effective farmer–stakeholder engagement.
The Faculty expresses its sincere gratitude to Ms. Sarabjeet Kaur (Agriculture Development
Officer, Jalandhar) for inviting the University to participate in the Mela and encouraging the
conduct of method demonstrations for farmers.
Through such initiatives, DAV University continues to strengthen the link between
agricultural education, field-level practices, and the farming community.
