Experts Delve into Cutting-edge Drug Discovery for Colon Cancer at DAV University Conference

In a groundbreaking exploration, scientists have identified several proteins responsible for various types of colon cancer, unlocking the potential for targeted drug discovery and early intervention in the disease. Dr. Surjit Pathak from Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (CARE), Chennai, shared these findings at the international conference hosted by DAV University. Notably, researchers at the conference are investigating the use of stem cells for treating carcinoma, yielding promising results.

The two-day conference, titled “One Planet, One Health, One Future,” also featured insights from Dr. Antara Banerjee from CARE, who discussed the potential of stem cell-derived exosomes as a future therapeutic tool for cancer and aging disorders.

Organized by DAV University in collaboration with the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), and Indian Science Congress Association (Chandigarh Chapter), the conference attracted notable speakers and experts in the field.

Dr. Manju Sharma, former Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, highlighted the significant contribution of biotechnology in various developmental sectors in the country.

A special mention went to 14-year-old Harmehar Kaur from Ivy World School, Jalandhar, who received applause and recognition for presenting a research paper on climate change.

Dr. Kamal Jaiswal from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, discussed the empowering role of animal science in women's skill development and vocational education. Dr. Sukhbir Kaur, President of the Indian Society for Parasitology, shed light on the research and potential development of a Leishmania vaccine.

During the conference, the Punjab Forum for Science and Technology Communication honored individuals for their service to society. The award recipients included Dr. Manoj Kumar, Vice Chancellor; Mr. Rajan Gupta, Executive Director, DAV University; and former Director General of Police and agricultural expert Prof Tarlok Singh. Prof R C Sobti, the honorary president of the forum, expressed gratitude for their exemplary service. The forum also granted fellowships to 19 researchers.

Dr Manoj Kumar, Vice Chancellor of the University expressed optimism about the integration of cutting-edge research into practical applications, emphasizing the university’s commitment to being at the forefront of such transformative endeavors for the betterment of global health.

Prizes were given to talented individuals who demonstrated exceptional insights and contributed significantly to the scientific discourse in their respective fields. For oral presentation, Anmol Bhatia (Thapar University) got first prize, Sanjay Sharma (SBBSU) got second and Sarabjit Singh (GNDU) received the third prize. In poster presentation on healthcare and environment, Arpana (GNDU) bagged first, Sonia (LPU) got second prize, Jagdeep Singh (Punjabi University, Patiala) received third prize. In poster presentation on agriculture, Pallavi Narania (DAV University) got First Prize, Bhawna (DAVU) got second prize and Amarjit Singh (Punjabi University, Patiala) got third prize.
