Dr. Patrick Corbett (CUNY, USA) Delivered a Lecture on “Adaptation Theory, Narrative, and the Story Drive”
April 06, 2021

Dr. Patrick Corbett, a tenured Assistant Professor of English at New York City College of Technology (the designated college of technology in the City University of New York system), delivered an online guest lecture on “Adaptation Theory, Narrative, and the Story Drive” to the students of DAV University, Jalandhar, on 6th April 2021. Around 270 students attended this lecture and derived much benefit from the resource person’s views.

Dr. Corbett looked at the Messianic story of Jesus Christ through several lenses to understand how it has evolved from the sacred to western world passion plays (medieval and modern), stage shows, movies, parodies, video games, and memes. Then he looked at the modern Black Panther movie as a way of expanding that lens and seeing how the Christ story is just one of many retellings of a suffering savior.

Dr. Jasbir Rishi (Vice-Chancellor), Dr. R. K. Seth (Dean, Academics), and Dr. K. N. Kaul (Registrar) expressed their gratitude to Dr. Corbett for his precious time and sharing his knowledge with the students; they congratulated Dr. Nakul Kundra (Coordinator, Department of English) on the successful organization of the lecture.
