Jalandhar, January 18
Dr Ajay K Sharma, Director, National Institute of Technology (NIT), New Delhi visited DAV University on January 15 and interacted with the members of teaching faculty and students.
Dr Sharma was received on the campus by Dr A K Paul, Vice Chancellor while various dignitaries including Dr K N Kaul, Registrar of the University were also present on the occasion.
Dr Sharma interacted with the team of Mechanical Engineering students who were heading to participate in technical competitions organized by Technology Robotix Society at IIT Kharagpur from January 21 to 24.
The DAV University team is headed by Sagar Bhardwaj – a student of B Tech (third year). The students showcased the robots made by them in front of Dr Sharma.
During the interaction with faculty members, Dr Sharma apprised them of the scope and possibility of cooperation between government and private institutions for improving the standard of education and research.
Felicitating the guest, Dr Paul told the faculty members that Dr Sharma had made major strides in profession and the faculty and students of the University could gain a lot from his experience and expertise.
Dr Sharma had completed two R&D projects funded by Government of India while the work on the third project was on. He was associated to implement the World Bank project of 209 Million for TEQIP-I programme of the institute. “He is a technical reviewer of reputed international journals and had been appointed as member of technical Committee on Telecom under IASTD Canada for the term 2004-2007,” Dr Paul said.
Dr Sharma’s major areas of interest are broadband optical wireless communication systems and networks, dispersion compensation, fiber nonlinearities, optical soliton transmission, WDM systems and networks, Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) and wireless sensor networks and computer communication. He has published 272 research papers in the International and National Journals/Conferences and 12 books. He has supervised 18 Ph.D. and 48 M Tech theses.
