Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, DAV University, Jalandhar organized an informative one day seminar on “MUSHROOM CULTIVATION” on February 16, 2023. The resource persons invited for the seminar were Dr. B.C. Suman, Former Professor and Head of Mycology and Plant Pathology and Dr. I. M. Sharma, Dr.Y.S. Parmar, University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan.

Dr. Karanjeet Singh Thind, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences welcomed the guests and introduced Dr BC Suman the Resource person of the seminar. Dr Puja Rattan, Co-ordinator of Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Dr. Ashutosh Sharma, Associate Professor, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences welcomed the resource persons.

The seminar was held to enlighten the students about establishment of an enterprise through “Cultivation of Mushrooms for self-employment”. Dr. Suman, in his seminar discussed the importance of four main mushroom species viz. Agaricus bisporus, Pleurotus sajor caju, Callocybe indica and Volvaricella volvacea, infrastructural requirement and dealt in detail about thee finer points in spawn production and cultivation.

Dr. I.M. Sharma explained the various diseases and pests of mushrooms such as dry bubble, cob web, wet bubble, green mould etc. and their management.

About 150 students and faculty of agricultural sciences attended the seminar. Dr. Manoj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, DAV University and Dr. K.N. Kaul (Registrar) appreciated the efforts of Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in conducting such seminars.
