Highlighting the importance of positive thinking and persistence, Canadian politician Ruby Dhalla, called upon young boys and girls to aim high and work hard to achieve their goals in life. Dhalla, who was talking to students on the International Women’s Day, said never talk negative about any girl because every person has a sister, daughter or mother.
Dhalla, while talking about her entry to the Canadian House of Commons as a member of the Liberal Party, Ruby said that she was one of the first Sikh women to serve in the Canadian House of Commons. She told that she was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to an immigrant family from Punjab, India.
She said that women should support each other. Sometimes, women are the worst enemy of their own creed. “If we do not support each other, how women will succeed in the world,” she posed a question.
“No goal is too big to achieve and no mountain too high to be scaled,” she said. One must decide where they want to reach in life, work out an action plan and work hard to get there.
Talking about her forthcoming book, she said that the book would highlight how she established herself as a successful politician in Canada and won three elections. The book would be a reminiscence of her journey from being an MBBS doctor to a politician. “Struggles in life make you strong. Belief in god is also important to sail you through, she said.
Ruby said that the scenario in Punjab has changed a lot. The youth was aspiring to immigrate they must remember that they were the future of India. They should make their villages, towns and country a better place to live and progress.
Earlier, she was welcomed by Prof (Dr) A K Paul, Vice Chancellor, Dr Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj, Registrar and Dr Jasbir Rishi, Dean, Student Welfare. While welcome Ruby, Dr Paul said that her life was an inspiration to the youth and she has been a live example of women empowerment.
