Agro Club Hosts Earth Day Events with Enthusiastic Student Participation
The faculty members and students of Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, DAV University,
Jalandhar enthusiastically celebrated Earth Day on April 22 with the objective of promoting
environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable practices. Agro Club of Faculty of
Agricultural Sciences organized the event, and it witnessed active participation from students
across various disciplines, making it a vibrant and meaningful occasion. Around 100 students
participated in different activities organized during the celebration.
The celebration commenced with an inaugural address by Dr. Sonika Sharma, Coordinator, Agro
Club, highlighting the significance of Earth Day and the urgent need to conserve natural
resources. The theme of the event centered on environmental protection, sustainability, and
responsible living.
A series of competitions and activities were organized to engage students creatively and
intellectually. A quiz competition tested participants’ knowledge on environmental issues,
climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable development. The debate competition provided a
platform for students to express their views on contemporary environmental challenges and
possible solutions, fostering critical thinking and awareness.
In the extempore competition, participants spoke spontaneously on topics related to
environmental conservation, demonstrating confidence and depth of understanding. Creative
expression was evident in the rangoli and poster-making competitions, where students
depicted themes such as “Save Earth,” “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” and “Climate Action” through
vibrant designs and impactful messages.
The Best out of Waste competition encouraged innovation and sustainability by motivating
students to create useful and decorative items from discarded materials, emphasizing the
importance of recycling and resource efficiency. Additionally, a skit performance by students
effectively conveyed environmental messages, addressing issues such as pollution, deforestation,
and global warming in an engaging and thought-provoking manner.
First, second, and third prize winners were announced for each competition, and the winners
were felicitated for their outstanding performances.
The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and a vote of thanks by Prof. K. S. Thind,
Dean Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. Faculty members appreciated the creativity, enthusiasm,
and awareness demonstrated by the students. The celebration successfully instilled a sense of
responsibility towards the environment and reinforced the importance of collective action in
preserving the Earth for future generations.
Overall, the Earth Day celebration was a grand success, serving as a reminder of our shared duty
to protect and nurture the planet.
